The Marble Falls High School boys soccer team beat Jarrell 5-1 Feb. 9 in District 25-4A play.
The Mustangs (12-2, 4-0) are on a seven-match winning streak. They led 4-0 at the half.
Garrett Goggans led with 2 goals and an assist, while Ivan Espino scored 2 goals. Diego Dominguez had 3 assists. Kash Bussaraporn scored a goal and had an assist.
“It was a good night,” head coach Rick Hoover said. “The boys played really well. But the score could have been higher. We had a hard time finishing. Some nights you can’t miss. We weren’t putting them in the back of the net.”
He compared it to basketball.
“It’s kind of like the 3-point line,” he said. “You can live and die on the 3-point shot. Some nights they go down and some nights they don’t.”
Hoover called it the ebbs and flows of the offense, noting teams simply work through challenges.
“We did everything right, then miss,” he said. “We had misses by kids who normally don’t miss. We were just hitting the post or just missing wide. You have to keep making really good athletic plays to keep the score down.”
Meanwhile, the Cougars’ lone goal came late in the contest.
“I’m really proud of our defense,” the coach said. “Their kid made a great shot. I went over and high-fived him and told him that was an incredible shot. Nobody could have saved it. We didn’t have one all night that pretty. We have a lot of experience on our defense and a lot of depth.”
Marble Falls travels to play Burnet (7-6, 3-1) Tuesday, Feb. 13. The junior varsity plays at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs are on a three-match winning streak.
